Concrete additive

Concrete additive

CONSRATE ADDITIVE

Improves the adhesion of mortar and fresh concrete to old surfaces; can be used as a primer and also as a mortar additive; increases flexural and tensile strength; does not corrode reinforcing bars

Introduction

The concrete additive is a single-component, water-soluble polymer emulsion used in the construction industry for two main purposes: creating a bonding layer between old concrete and mortar, or adding it to cement mortar to improve its properties. With the traditional method, applying mortar over hardened concrete usually leads to detachment, flaking and cracking, because a sufficient chemical bond does not form between the old concrete and the new mortar. By penetrating the surface pores and forming a continuous polymer layer, the concrete adhesive establishes this bond durably. Adding this product to mortar reduces the amount of water required, increases the workability and flow of the mortar, and reduces shrinkage while increasing flexural, tensile and abrasion strength. The polymer film that forms is flexible and makes the mortar resistant to vibration and to contraction and expansion caused by temperature changes.

Applications

  • Creating a bonding layer between old concrete and fresh mortar
  • Repair of concrete structures
  • Can be used in cement and gypsum plasters
  • Can be used in mortar for installing tiles, ceramics and stone, for waterproofing pools and tanks, for repairing concrete floors, industrial flooring, grouting and filling surface cracks.

Main features

1. Increases the flexural, tensile and abrasion strength of the mortar. 2. Reduces mortar shrinkage and cracking. 3. Reduces the amount of water required, thereby increasing the workability and flow of the mortar. 4. No risk of corroding reinforcing bars. 5. Water-based, odourless, non-toxic and free of organic solvents. 6. Resistant to the alkaline environment of concrete

Directions for use

Surface preparation: The surface must be clean and free of dust, grease, formwork oil and loose particles. Remove loose and flaking pieces, and remove damaged areas until sound concrete is reached. Before application, dampen the surface, but leave no free water on it. a) Use as a primer: Dilute the concrete additive with water at a ratio of 2 to 1 (depending on the absorption of the surface) and mix thoroughly. Apply the mixture evenly over the surface with a brush or roller. The mortar or fresh concrete must be applied before the primer has dried completely, while it is still tacky (about 20 to 30 minutes). If the primer has dried completely, it must be applied again. b) Use as a mortar additive: Mix the concrete additive with water, then add it to the sand and cement mixture. Because of the plasticising property of the product, reduce the mortar water to avoid a loss of strength. Continue mixing for a maximum of 3 minutes; excessive stirring causes foaming. Application conditions: The ambient and surface temperature during application must be between +5 and +35 degrees Celsius. The applied surface must be protected from rain and frost until fully set. Wash tools with water immediately after finishing work; once dry, the product can only be removed mechanically.

Storage and warnings

  • Wear gloves and safety glasses when using.
  • In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  1. Store in the original, closed packaging, in a covered, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, at a temperature of +5 to +30 degrees Celsius.
  2. Protect the product from freezing.
